VISA REQUIRMENTS:
You are responsible for obtaining your Visa. Most nationalities will require a Visa for Mauritania. This can be applied for online, and paid for with cash on arrival at the border.
DISCLAIMERS:
- This tour involves a large amount of driving, and long days on the road
- while we wait for the train, we will be in the middle of the Sahara Desert, exposed to the elements, and can get COLD! As the train is so unreliable, we could have to wait overnight / long periods of time.
ITINEARY
Day 1:
Cross the border from Western Sahara (direct bus available from Dakhla) and meet the guides and team for the next week! Drive to Nouadibou for the evevning, and welcome dinner.
Day 2:
Continue on to the capital city of Nouakchott, visit the camel market once we arrive, known to be one of the largest in Africa. if time allows, visit other areas of the city and check in to our hotel for the night.
Day 3:
Early morning drive to Azoueiga, with stops along the way for sightseeing and lunch. Visit Akjoujt before reaching the Dunes that will be our camping spot for the evening. Explore the desert and have a home cooked meal from our private chef.
Day 4:
Drive to Terjit Oasis, one of the most beautiful locations in the country, visiting Mheirith oasis along the way, the largest oasis in the country. Continue on to Ouadane, our home for the night, and check in to our hotel.
Day 5:
Morning drive to Chinguetti, the 7th holiest city in Islam, a place being taken over by the desert. Spend sunset at the surrounding Dunes, and overnight stay at hotel.
Day 6:
It's iron ore day! Drive to Atar for supplies if needed, visiting Ben Amera for a photo spot, before heading to wait for the train to pass to board. Spend as long as it takes atop the infamous train, before we reach Nouadibou.
Day 7:
Who knows when we will have arrived... maybe last night, maybe this morning, but when we do we will drive to our hotel to clean up and rest after the epic journey we just had. If you're feeling up to it, explore the city a little before we head back to the border or airport (optional) End of tour!
If you want to stay in the city, your hotel is booked for the night so you can opt to stay an extra night and make your own onwards travel plans (we can book a direct bus from Nouadibou to Dhakla, Morocco for you)
